Case Analysis: Superintendent Briggs Is Busy Creating Visions Today

Case Analysis 2

In completing this activity, you will demonstrate the ability to analyze a case and draw lessons for leadership practice.

Strategic leadership involves the ability to anticipate, envision, maintain flexibility, and empower others to create strategic change. Organizational leadership focuses on the ability to provide the tools for the organization to be effective.

Read the Case Problem, “Superintendent Briggs Is Busy Creating Visions Today” on p. 444 of your textbook. Then, respond to the following:

•As a strategic leader, what error might Mary Briggs be making?

•Using the case and your organization as a frame of reference, discuss the role of the strategic and organizational leader in creating a strategic culture for innovation and developing a learning organization.

•What do you think your organization can learn from this case? Recommend at least one measure that can be implemented to create an atmosphere of learning and innovation in your organization.

Be certain to integrate the readings and research from the online library to support your opinions. You must cite your sources in text and include multiple references in addition to the textbook for your initial response and your replies.

By Day 4 of the week: Post your primary response.

By Day 7 of the week: Respond to two or more of your colleagues’ postings in one or more of the following ways:

•Address a colleague’s analysis and evaluation of the topic(s).

•Expand or remark upon a colleague’s integration of relevant resources.

•Answer question(s) posed by your colleague(s) for further discussion.

•Link a colleague’s posting to other postings or to course materials and concepts, where appropriate and relevant.

•Extend or constructively challenge your colleagues’ work.

Remember to read the feedback to your own major postings and reply to it throughout the module.

Consult the Discussion Posting Guide for information about writing your discussion posts. It is recommended that you write your post in a document first. Check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. When you are ready to make your initial post, click on “Reply.” Then copy/paste the text into the message field, and click “Post Reply.”

-BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT: M4, D1 (GOAL SETTING):

In this activity, we will discuss what a goal is and some best practices for goal setting. What do you hope to accomplish? Is there a plan in development? If you have a plan, could you make any adjustments? Would you consider a different approach than the one listed in your plan? Do you have the required resources? Is each step clearly defined? These are important questions that need to be explored in order to flesh out our goals and identify the most efficient route to achieving them.

For this discussion, you will first need to define what a goal is and provide a comprehensive example of a goal. It is important that you not only understand what a goal is, but how to develop one. Please review the following list of best practices of goal setting:

•Performance goals are aligned with organizational goals.

•Goals include specific guidance on how to accomplish them.

•Achievement of performance goals is used to drive subsequent assignments.

•Employees and managers consider current performance, individual desires, and department needs when developing a goal.

•Goals are communicated to the project management team.

In your initial response:

•After reviewing these best practices, develop two of your own best practices related to goal setting.

•Provide evidence-based rationale for why you think your chosen best practices are valid.

In response to your classmates, be sure to:

•Respond to someone who has chosen different best practices than yours.

•Provide feedback on these best practices. ◦Do you agree with them? Why or why not?

◦Is there anything you would add to their chosen best practices? Why or why not?

Things to Remember!

1.Post a 2 to 4 paragraph discussion post (300 words minimum). Justify your explanations by including in-text citations and references in APA format as applicable.

2.Post your primary response on the discussion board by Thursday at 11:59 pm ET. Be sure to review your writing for grammar and spelling before posting. Read any postings already provided by your instructor or fellow students.

3.Read and respond to at least two of your classmates. Remember to read the feedback to your own major postings and reply to it throughout the module.
