Describe workers responses to the low wages
Instructions: Choose one of the following three topics and write a paper. Make sure you carefully follow instructions concerning form and length (there is no penalty if your paper is longer, only if it is shorter than required). The paper is worth 50 points. You may, and are encouraged to submit the paper early if you like.
Refer to at least one online source, excluding Wikipedia, in composing your answer. Do not forget to include the URLs for the sites you use. If you do not you will receive score of 0, zero, for the assignment.
Your answer must be in standard essay form. That means at least 5 paragraphs: an introduction paragraph, at least three body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.
Part 1- The City and Its Workers
Describe workers’ responses to the low wages and poor working conditions they experienced in late-nineteenth-century industrial jobs. How did they try to improve their situations and what demands did they make? How did industrialists and the U.S. government respond?
Part 2- Dissent, Depression, and War, 1890-1900
Three major strikes took place in the 1890s. Describe the events leading up to, as well as the circumstances and outcome, of two of those strikes.
Part 3- Progressivism from the Grass Roots to the White House, 1890-1916
Discuss President Theodore Roosevelt’s reputation as a trustbuster. How did he acquire this reputation? Did he use it to good effect? What was his actual position on trusts?
