Designing a Study/Timeline/Presentation

The intent of this practical experience is to gain understanding and knowledge based on course objectives and outcomes and present opportunity to demonstrate teambuilding skills and abilities in the field of Government research and application.

Assignment

As a project manager(s) and research analyst(s) in city government, you have been assigned a task by the mayor. The police department of the city is suffering from a crisis of confidence among the citizens and, as a consequence, has a demoralized workforce.

You have been requested to design a study to address both of these problems.

1. Answer the following based on course text,

Applied Research Methods in Public & Nonprofit Organizations authored by Mitchell Brown & Kathleen Hale in 2014:

a. What is your research question or questions?

b. How would you study this? What data would you want to collect? Why? Where would you get the data?

c. If you were going to include interviews, whom would you interview? Why? What questions would you ask?

2. Assume it is August 15 and your presentation is due to the mayor’s office by December 1.

Based on tasks outlined, you are expecting to develop research question(s), conduct literature review, and developing a design will take four weeks; completing the data collection and analysis will take another four weeks.

The team is required to complete the following:

a. Develop a timeline for turning in final presentation to the Mayor’s office by December 1

b. Engage all steps in the writing process as described in course text,

Applied Research Methods in Public & Nonprofit Organizations authored by Mitchell Brown & Kathleen Hale in 2014

3. Create team presentation based on responses to #1 and #2 above

a. PowerPoint slides—no more than eight (8) for summary (#1), one (1) for timeline (#2), one (1) for participation

b. Participation— slide containing matrix with team name, each teammate’s name, and participation percentage in assignment effort, any explanation(s) of team challenges

c. Plan to present for ten (10) minutes, Q&A for five (5)minutes d.
