Developing A Financial Plan
Name:
Institution Name:
When a new leader is elected and dishes out new ideas that are to be implemented strategic planning is essential. Planning helps assure that your department remains relevant and responsive to the needs of the student body and contributes to its growth. We shall focus on the academic excellence department and its new priorities relevant to the new president’s strategic plan.

New departmental priorities
This department puts emphasis on the health and well-being of students, the public and international aspects of education, and the excellence of faculty teaching. It is also involved in providing students with an impressive range of educational and co-curricular activities outside formal class work. With this strength the new set of priorities will help in maintaining and nurturing these strengths. This strategic plan argues that the department should give special attention to increasing student engagement, integrating information technology into programs and services and developing measurable learning outcomes.

In order to meet the institution’s new strategic position, here are some of the new priorities the department would need to pursue;

1. Strengthen instutional structure that promote information technology

2. Strengthen the educational impact of international opportunities and experiences for students.

3. Promote the health and well-being of students.

4. Initiating learning outcomes within the courses being offered

5. Strengthen efforts to attract and educate on excellent and diverse body of undergraduate students

6. Provide a more unified and shared educational experience

Some of the initiatives that are to strengthen the institution structures using information technology are; Encouraging faculty to embed ICTs literacy in the new pedagogies , recognizing the different pedagogies appropriate for different disciplines and programs, establishing a student a friendly website where they can access some of the academic programs, also promote and support educational innovation beyond the classroom e.g. service learning, promoting training in software development and provision of ICT resources development, promote e-learning and use of e-learning materials. The socioeconomic system that our universities exist today is highly dynamic and competitive (David Dodd,2014). Technology play numerous roles in the strategic planning process and these initiatives will come a great way in meeting the new department goals.

By providing a more unified and shared educational experience the students will be more engaged in the university’s academic activities. The department can create a series of common intellectual experiences within the first two years directed at core competencies, including living-learning programs and formal coursework.

Promoting the health and well being of students is included in the set of priorities as it is noted that the educational environment within the university is demanding and rigorous and therefore the students have a difficulty in achieving academic success hence less engagement. Some of the initiatives that can be included are; ensure that there are sufficient resources for proactive outreach and intervention and timely availability of services of students who experience stress or showing mental health issues, innovating new ways to foster friendship and closer relationships between the faculty and students.

Creating measurable student learning outcomes should be clear, concise and measurable statement that describe what a student should know and be able to do at the end of their degree program that should be implemented by the faculty. Some of the initiatives that the department can undertake are; creating a cohesive curriculum map and choosing a manageable number of outcomes after developing student learning outcomes.

Proposals Recommended:
Proposal 1

Conducting a hypothesis on faculty’s computer self-efficacy

Computer self-efficacy refers to individual’s judgement about their ability to use computers in various situations (Thatcher, Perrewe,2012). It is important to understand the faculty’s computer self-efficacy while integrating information technology into programs and services. Researchers who studied computers self-efficacy generally agree that there is a positive relation between computer self-efficacy and computer usage. A hypothesis will be conducted to show faculty’s computer self-efficacy positively influence their perceived ease and use of educational technologies.

Proposal 2

Creating a cohesive curriculum map

Curriculum maps provide a means to visualize the interaction between various learning outcomes. They allow faculty to assess whether learning outcomes are being implemented across their academic programs. A curriculum map will be created, analyzed and revised by the faculty members.

Proposal’s purpose
The curriculum map proposal allows student to focus on their learning expectations and hold them accountable for learning, while encouraging them to develop their own learning maps while the computer self-efficacy proposal encourages implementation of information technology into the university’s programs and services. The two proposals will encourage development of measurable learning outcomes and also increase student engagement within the university contributing to the new set strategic priorities.
