The development of self-gender identity, parenting styles
As you read, you need to “dialogue” with the text by identifying main ideas and supporting details, making connections, marking confusing areas, identifying unfamiliar words, and examining graphics. Here are some reading questions you should answer.
1. What are the main ideas of this chapter? (e.g. The development of self and gender identity, parenting styles)
2. What are the connections between different sections of the reading? Can you make a comparison or analogy (e.g. The parents’ expectations in different cultures)?
3. Which words are unfamiliar to you (i.e terminology)? Define the meaning of those words with your own words based on the text.
4. Look at the pictures, charts, and other graphics accompanying the text (if applicable). Why are they there? How do they help you understand the content of the passage?
