Other guidelines/tips for the Mini Projects: • You are allowed one direct quote that is no longer than 20 words. The reason for this is so that you focus on honing your synthesis and analysis skills and are not overly dependent on pulling quotes. • SHOW don’t TELL. (Ken had short brown hair, dark brown eyes and wide full lips versus Ken was handsome) • Do not become overly dependent on one reference and cite it excessively- this is an indication that you have not synthesized/analyzed the literature. • Do not have spaces in between paragraphs. • Introduction should state the topic and purpose of the paper- Why is this important? Why should people know about this? • Avoid redundancy. • Condense language and avoid qualifiers (this was interesting, neat, etc.- these are opinions) • Do not use first or second person (I or you) in this paper. • Be consistent with terminology. • Give credit where credit is due. Your assignment will be put through SafeAssign- any plagiarism will constitute an ‘F’. • Use APA 6th Edition Style manual. • Pick a subject that interests you and will hold your attention. • If you do need extra help writing, contact UHCL’s Writing Center in advance to set up an appointment as they get busy towards the end of the semester.
