The concern about climate change and DRR issue has yet been clearly addressed in the school curriculum in Indonesia.
WHY IS IT NECESSARY / WHAT IS THE RATIONALE OF THIS PAPER?
It explains through various lessons covering science education (IPA), chemistry, and biology both in the junior and the senior high school.
This paper, therefore, will look at how the current curriculum is embedded the issue based on the national standard competency.
This will employ the document analysis from the curriculum 2013 provided by the national curriculum centre for primary school and secondary schools (including both junior high school and senior high schools).
The steps include:(1) identify the topic, basic competency, learning resources material (2) Identify the assessment methods which address specific knowledge, skill and attitude that needed in assessing students understanding in the climate’s risk.
By the end, it will give an account of applicable strategies to improve the current curriculum to raise student knowledge, awareness and change their attitudes towards the climate impact and make teaching and learning process more factual to students’ life.
Moreover, the impact of learning can be widened into society through the dissemination of the knowledge both directly (informing) and indirectly (attitudes) into wider family and community as a whole.
