Discuss counter-arguments and provide rebuttal counter- Humanities
One of the primary values associated with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is college readiness. Develop a PowerPoint presentation that argues for or against college readiness driving school curriculum.
This argument should follow the Toulmin Model for Argumentation (Wheeler, n.d.) explained below:
Slide 1: Title page
Slide 2: Introduction of the problem or topic Material to get the reader’s attention (a “hook”) Introduce problem or topic Introduce your claim or thesis, perhaps with accompanying qualifiers that limit the scope of the argument. (This will help you cut down the topic to a manageable length.)
Slide 3: Offer data (reasons or evidence) to support the argument Datum #1 Datum #2 (and so on)
Slide 4: Explore warrants that show how the data is connected logically with other data Warrant #1 Warrant #2 (and so on)
Slide 5: Offer factual backing to show the logic used in the warrants is good in terms of realism and theory Backing for warrant #1 Backing for warrant #2 (and so on)
