Discuss the gender gap in wages and the concept of comparable worth, including the practice of exceptioning.

Women have come a long way since we entered the workplace.  Unfortunately not enough. Forbes wrote in 2013,  “For more than a decade now, the comparison between the median earnings of full-time employed men and women in the U.S. has remained a stubborn 77%–that is, women earn roughly 77 cents on the dollar when stacked against the paychecks of white men” http://www.forbes.com/sites/meghancasserly/2013/09/19/the-geography-of-the-gender-pay-gap-womens-earnings-by-state/.

Women in science and medicine are also lagging behind. Common Health wrote this article yesterday: http://commonhealth.wbur.org/2014/09/nih-grants-10m-to-help-erase-research-gender-gap-but-is-it-enough

What are your  thoughts and your experiences?

Comparable worth refers to the notion that jobs that require equivalent KSAOs should be compensated equally.

1) Discuss the gender gap in wages and the concept of comparable worth, including the practice of exceptioning. Discuss how this situation may change in the future and how it may be affected by changes in the general workforce.

2) Discuss the influence of civil rights legislation on the structure and use of job analyses.
