Research Paper Requirements:
Students will be required to complete a research paper on a social problem of their choice. The paper, including the cover page and bibliography, should be a minimum of 5 pages and no longer than 8 pages. The paper should be double spaced, using a 12 font, and ¾ to 1 inch margins. The paper should follow the prescribed outline below.
I. Define the social problem (5 pts)
● Address and summarize research on this topic (you will need at least 4 references that highlight past research on this topic)
● Include facts and statistics
II. Type of Social Problem (5 pts)
● Discuss whether the social problem is a norm violation or a social condition and provide justification
● Identify what category the social problem can be falls under and provide justification: 1) political, 2) people, environment & location, 3) inequality, 4) social structure and/or individual deviance, or 5) institutional problem
III. Policy (5 pts)
● Describe what federal and/or state policies have been implemented to address this social problem IV. Solutions ( 5 pts)
● Address the solutions to this issue as well as any personal thoughts you might have on this topic V. Bibliography (5 pts)
● Must contain a minimum of 4 references
● Follow the APA format of writing
Grammar/organization (5 pts)
Papers will be graded on the student’s ability to organize and summarize the topic, their ability to apply theories and solutions, and personal thoughts on the issue as well as timeliness, neatness, and grammar.
