In one of the videos in this week’s module, the scholar Eric Foner claims “we are still living today with the legacy and the consequences of the changes that took place in American Society in that era.” The short documentary “Lest We Forget: The Lost Story of Southern Sharecroppers” indicates, however, that change didn’t come quickly to many African-Americans, who continued to live in what one historian has called “a disguised form…of servitude” long after slavery was abolished.
