Discussion Board #5:The Writing Process

Discussion Board #5:The Writing Process

In this part  you have not only been reading about writing processes but you have also been writing your own essay for this class. As is noted in the book and in the lecture on the writing process, there is not one best way for everyone to write. Instead, we have all developed our own approaches to writing that involve aspects of planning, drafting, and reviewing that intertwine as we write.

For this discussion board, you will write about your own typical writing process in a post of at least 250 words. What do you do when you write? Use the following questions to help you think more about your own writing process:

· When and where do you typically write (e.g., after the kids are in bed on the couch with the television on)?

· What writing tools do you typically use (pencil, pen, paper, computer, tablet, etc.)?

· For how long do you think about the assignment and your ideas before beginning to write?

· Do you like to talk to others about your ideas before writing?

· Do you look for examples of what you need to write in textbooks or on the Internet?

· Do you make notes before you start drafting?

· Do you make an outline (formal or informal) before drafting?

· Do you prefer to draft immediately rather than making notes or outlines?

· Do you stop often while drafting to think of more ideas?

· Do you stop often while drafting to correct errors?

· Do you spend time after you finish drafting to re-read your work?

· When you make changes, do you tend to look only at errors or also at organization and development of more ideas or examples?

· How do you know when you are done writing?

There are no right or wrong answers. Just be descriptive of your approach to writing academic essays.
