Discussion Questions

1.) In the last three decades we’ve seen:

Records → 8-track → cassettes → tapes → CD’s → iPod

Internet → ”Snail-mail” → email

Telephone → cell phones → smart phone

Maps → GPS

Google; Facebook; Twitter; Uber. Airbnb.

Anybody seen a pay-phone lately? My grandmother used to tell me how her mother would brag that she had cleaned the globes of the lanterns before the sun came up.

It is hard to make it through the day without hearing the word “technology” mentioned. For the purpose of this Discussion we’ll use the simple definition: Technology is simply “know how.”

Question:  Has or does technology change culture? If so, give examples.

2.) In Discussion 5 (Main Topic 5.2) we pretended you had a job with an IT company and had received a Request for Quotation from a customer.  You determined that the cost of a project was $100,000, and you decided on a price to quote the customer.  The customer has asked you to bring your proposal over tomorrow at 11:00 AM and make a presentation. In the course of that presentation the client asks, “Is this your best offer?”

Module 11 has a section titled “Differing Negotiation Expectations from Different Cultures.”

How would you respond for a customer in each of the three cultures listed?
