Discussion /Reflection

For years, The New York Times has published a weekly column featuring reader essays on love and relationships. Since 2016, several of the essays have been read by celebrities and shared via podcast.  The purpose of this assignment is for you to explore relationships through the Modern Love essays.

1) Explore at least three different Modern Love essays.  Any format you choose is fine (online articles only, podcasts only, or combination of the two).

2) Read / listen to three different essays.Â

3) Write and submit a reflection (see link)

QUESTION #2

Interview two people who are in a long-term (at least five years), committed relationship.

Ask them how they knew when they were “in love.”

Find out if their level of intimacy has changed over time.
Ask them the differences between being “in love” versus being “in infatuation” with another.
Ask them what qualities contribute to a successful relationship.
Depending on how well you know the person, and keeping in mind that the following are sensitive issues, inquire about how cross-cultural perspectives, jealousy, and gender differences are handled within the relationship.
Following the interview, state what you learned in a typed discussion board prompt to submit as your initial posting. Also consider the following:Â

Start your discussion prompt with your five guidelines that you feel would help couples maintain long-term, healthy relationships.
Provide support for your list: How do the other person’s perspectives and experiences compare with those that you have observed or experienced?
Review your classmates responses and vote on what you think is the best list.
