Dr. Morrie Schwartz, a professor of Sociology at Brandeis University, taught hundreds of students many things but none more important than what he taught Mitch Albom, one of his former students. Mitch Albom makes contact with his professor from twenty years before upon learning that Morrie is terminally ill and chronicles the last months of his former professor’s life in TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE: AN OLD MAN, A YOUNG MAN, AND LIFE’S GREATEST LESSON.

This paper needs to be around 300 to 400 word count.

After you read the work, select the one lesson you think is the most valuable of the “Tuesday Lessons”  (We Talk about the World, We Talk about Feeling Sorry for Yourself, We Talk about Family, We talk about Emotions, We talk about the fear of Aging, We Talk about Money, We Talk about How Love Goes On, We Talk about Marriage, We Talk about culture, We talk about Forgiveness, We Talk about the Perfect Day and We Say Goodby) and write an essay addressing the following:  Summarize the main points made in that particular lesson and then explain why this particular lesson is meaningful to you.  Your paper will be evaluated on how well you summarize the points made in the particular lesson you select and on WHY the lesson was meaningful to you.  Be specific in both parts of the paper.
You will need to include a reference page with every paper that you submit.  In the case of TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE you will have only one reference since you are working only with the Albom book but you nonetheless need to include a reference page.
Albom, m. (1997).  Tuesdays with morrie:  An old man, a young man, and life’s greatest lesson.  New York, New York:  Doubleday.
(The title should be underlined or put in italics.)

If you quote from the book you must follow the quote with the author’s name and page number.
“It’s horrible to watch my body slowly wilt away to nothing.  But it’s also wonderful because of all the time I get to say good-bye” (Albom, 57).
Read the directions for the paper under the assignments section on your Blackboard site.  Think of the assignment as a two part paper, the first being the selection and summarization of the Tuesday lesson that was most meaningful to you.  In the first part of the paper you need to summarize the points made by Morrie in the lesson.  What did he say in this particular Tuesday lesson?  It is important that you select only ONE Tuesday lesson.   Morrie taught many Tuesday lessons but your focus should be on the ONE most meaningful to you.  Do not submit a summarization of the whole book and clearly state which Tuesday lesson you selected.
The second part of the paper (AND THE ONE THAT SOME STUDENTS NEGLECTED TO WRITE IN PAST SEMESTERS) involves covering WHY the message was significant to you.  What in your personal experience makes this Tuesday lesson so important?  You will need to be specific in this section…don’t say it was significant because you liked the message.  Rather, tell me WHY it resonated with you.
Be sure and include a reference page and if you quote directly from the book indicate that in the body of your paper  by giving me the author and the page number as follows (Albom, 20).
