A.) If you ask the general public what the most dangerous part of a volcanic eruption for people living near a volcano, many will say “lava”. But you as a clever volcanologist know better! Chose another volcanic hazard and explain how it happens, and what the potential impacts (short term and long term) would be on people who live near the volcano.

B.) Explain how a traditional oil deposit forms. How are Shale Oil and Tar Sands deposits different from traditional oil deposits in terms of formation and how we extract oil from them?

C.) Iceland is intersected by the mid-Atlantic Ridge. Describe the type of plate boundary this is, and the typical features found at this type of boundary (5 points). How does Iceland utilize it’s unusual geology to meet the country’s energy needs (5 points)?
