Due as a Word or Pages document on Blackboard Learn by 11pm on Wednesday, July 9.

What is the effect on the reader of unreliable narration? Pick TWO of the stories by Poe, Gilman, Jackson and/or Faulkner to show how the author establishes an unreliable narrator, and how such narration is used to complicate the reader’s relationship to the text while developing theme and meaning.
Analyze at least TWO of the stories by Gilman, Hemingway, Updike and/or Faulkner on the basis of gender and sexuality issues, incl. women’s health, rights, and changing roles within society. What theme(s) are common to the two stories you chose? What are the differences in the authors’ approaches, and which is more effective at conveying the gender-related theme you have identified?
Perform close readings of at least TWO of the stories by Joyce, Hemingway, Gilman and/or Ellison to show how the authors portray a character’s coming-of-age. What elements of form are used to create such a theme? Is coming-of-age necessarily a positive development in a character’s life?
