Individual Paper/Collaborative Activity You may choose to do this paper on your own or in a small group.

This paper may be written as a collaborative project-Communicate with other students if you wish to do the paper this way. This communication may be face-to-face or by email, phone, voice boards, discussion boards, or other means. If you select to do it as a collaborative project, you must work with at least one of you fellow classmates in this course.

Together, write a paper on the chosen topic.  Be sure to list your name and the names of the students with whom you worked.Â

• Each group participant must write a portion of the paper in order to get credit for the paper.
• Each group member must submit their portion to the group member responsible for putting together the whole paper in plenty of time to turn it in.  DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST DAY OF THE COURSE TO SUBMIT YOUR PORTION TO YOUR GROUP.
• Each member of the group must submit a copy of the paper producing an exclamation in the gradebook under paper.

The plagiarism policy which is described in your course applies to this paper.  NO PORTION of your paper should be copied and pasted. The paper should be in your own words based on outside research.

Students will write a five page paper (this is the length of the body and does not include the works cited page) on a topic selected from the list below. The purpose of the project is to give students an opportunity to discuss a key political science concept, and to show a basic understanding of academic research and reporting skills. The project consists of producing a paper on one of the provided topics (see below), as well as a works cited page for sources containing information used in the paper. The assignment is to be formatted according to the Modern Language Association (MLA) style. Students should research this style in order to properly format the assignment; papers not formatted properly will not receive a passing grade.

Students should use Courier or New Courier 12 point as the paper’s font, double space the text, and create one inch margins on all four sides of the page. In addition, the assignment should be formatted according to MLA style for papers with no title page. You must use a minimum of five different sources and cite them within this paper as well as list them on the works cited page using the MLA fomat.  One of the five sources must be your text book and at least one of the other four sources must be another book.
Yourname (or the names of all those if it is a group paper ) must appear on the paper.

Late papers will lose points.Â

In case your paper is lost in transit to me, you MUST make and hold on to a backup copy.

Submission Instructions:

• Complete your assignment using word-processing software such as MS Word, Open Office (download free software at http://www.openoffice.org/), or other per course requirements.
• Save your file as an .rtf file to ensure that it can be opened at any computer.
• Submit your assignment by selecting the paper assignment link below, browsing to, and attaching your saved file from your desktop. Make sure to select SUBMIT. You may view your posting both on this page and under My Grades.
