Our next discussion question is also a fairly wide open one. Now that you’ve read some (necessarily) brief overviews of the time period and some additional biographically-based history of the relevant monarchs, I’d like you to post your Responses by examining what strikes you most strongly about Early Modern England — What seems very different from our world and what seems the same, for example? How do you think the violent changes to class structure and especially religious belief might have influenced the writers and other artists of the period? How do you think “ordinary people”; dealt with the challenges of this society (what about the role of women, for example)? Feel free to stray outside the bounds of these particular questions if there is something else compelling which you would like to explore about Tudor/Jacobean history and culture!
