Entrepreneur Blog Assignment

saEntrepreneurship “Concept in Action” Blog Assignment

Blogging is a web-based activity that has increasingly become a source for business information, advice and inspiration.

Your Entrepreneurship “Concept in Action” Blog Assignment is an individual project.  Students will develop and submit one (1) mini-article (i.e., “blog post”) that would be deemed suitable for publication on a professional Web site. The objective of the blog posts are for students to reveal examples of successful and unsuccessful ventures.  Your broad focus should be one of the following:

(1) How an entrepreneur was creative to recognize an opportunity for a new venture, or

(2) How an entrepreneur or venture became creative to launch a new product or service within an existing business

The entrepreneur or venture can be based upon your research or a personal relationship that you have.  Your blog should have the following content: (a) Describe the entrepreneur or venture, (b) discuss the opportunity recognition that lead to a start-up (or a new product or service if it came from an existing venture), and then (c) identify the top three reasons for the success or failure—these three items should be specifics that could help any entrepreneur in any industry (if these are reasons for a venture failure, there should be an application of what entrepreneurs could avoid to have success).  This is all based upon your opinion and observations, but the blog post should demonstrate substantive reflection and be informative to a prospective entrepreneur.  This includes recognizing opportunities in order to launch a new business or improve their existing business and the main reasons for success or failure. Ideally, blog posts will reflect the following characteristics:

  • be between approximately 300-400 words in length (include the word count);
  • be single-spaced (should be visually appealing and not look like a typical academic paper)
  • identify a specific entrepreneur or a particular organization
  • include at least one link to another website or on-line reference point to help document the basis for any claims made by the author, as well as to point the reader to additional resources if desired; and
  • includes at least 1 graphic file (e.g., photo, video link, company logo, etc.) to help generate reader interest and draw attention to article content.

A grading rubric is also provided below to help guide your blog development efforts. Please note: peer reader feedback will be solicited as part of assessing the quality of submissions.
