In an essay of 1200 – 1500 words, analyze one of the staves in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, considering how one of the major themes listed below is reflected in the individual stage you’ve chosen, and further, how your chosen stave works to develop your theme in the novel as a whole. The themes available for consideration are listed below:
Bondage
Physical vs. ghostly bodies
Relationship between sympathy and social justice
Public vs. private space
Redemption
Food
You may also consider the role of Dickens’ text in either one of the following specific historical contexts:
Revitalization and creation of Christmas traditions.
Plight of poor children in London.
