Essay| create a narrative in words and photographs

Final Project The final project is to create a narrative in words and photographs, as follows. The narrative is to have 750 – 1000 words and 6 – 10 photos. Additionally, you need to create a concise 100 – 150 word version of your narrative, which you will present with your photos in class at the final. This needs to be an actual shorter version of your narrative and not just a section of the longer narrative or a few descriptive sentences. Be sure to submit both written versions along with the photos by the deadline, as explained below. You narrative can be about a topic of your choice but make it a topic that is different from ones you have done before and one that you can explore in greater depth than previous assignments. This is your final project and it is worth more than earlier assignments (200 points) so I expect to see a high level of planning, thought, structure, and quality of images and text. I particularly expect you to integrate the text and images so that they work together to further the narrative. The images are not simply illustrations of subjects in the text and the words are not just descriptions of what appears in the images. IMPORTANT: Submit a brief description of your project for approval (and advice). In the description, describe the topic, how you will be able to cover the requirements of the assignment with this topic, and describe some of the photographs you have in mind. Your written narrative must include active narrative throughout (that doesn’t mean everywhere but enough to keep it moving). You need to engage your readers in the experience of your topic, as we have discussed in class throughout the semester. Keep it lively and keep readers engaged. You could include some personal connection to the topic, if appropriate. Also think about the short narrative excerpts we read and discussed including those that conveyed the sense of what the authors wanted to communicate through topics that might have seemed to be digressions from the main subject. In other words, your narrative is as much about the ideas and experiences you want to communicate as it is about the events you write about. Your photos must be strong components of the narrative and need to work with the text. The images are integral parts of the narrative. They are not tacked on illustrations. Decide where they go in the text and indicate this either by a notation within the text or by integrating the text and images within a single document. Submit your proposal by Wednesday 12/6 at 4:30 (before class). Follow the guidelines described above. The proposal is worth 50 points. Submit the images, the full length narrative, and the concise narrative via Dropbox by Monday, December 18th at noon. If you integrate the images within your text, also submit separate full-sized images.
