Essay Literature paper

Your final assignment for this class will be a 6-8 page critical response paper. Your paper must engage in some way with the major themes of this class. To do this, your paper may take one of two forms: You may either write a detailed analysis of one specific text, or, you may write a comparative analysis, in which you examine and compare two of the texts we have read. Whichever option you choose, your paper must discuss at least one of the texts listed on the syllabus and it must use at least one theoretical reading from the class. Please do not use any outside theoretical readings (unless you come and discuss it with me first in person).
Similar to what you did in your close reading assignment, in this paper you will construct an analytic argument and then develop your argument with close reading. Your paper must have a thesis, and it must be analytical, not merely descriptive. Although you will make your argument first in the paper, and then go on to the close reading, do not make that argument without first considering (brainstorming to yourself) the details of the text—your argument should come from the way you interpret details. Finally, make sure to proofread carefully for sentence clarity, correct grammar, and correct spelling.
