What relevance do you see using the intelligences in your classroom in light of the fact that an individual’s preferred intelligence may not be the best way for them to take in and master new information? [Caution: Carefully consider what this question is asking – look again]

I believe using the intelligences is one way of many teachers can use to gage how a student learns. Once you learn ( personality, behaviors, etc.) your student in this manner, you can gage how learning preferences along with controlled factors can aide a child taking in and mastering information. However, it is not the only way teachers can prepare to engage students. Different modalities of instruction should be used along with the intelligences to plan out lessons. “Students need to be exposed to and provide differences opportunities to develop skills using a variety of styles (Norman, 2013).

Outside of the classroom, what purpose do the intelligences serve in the way you interact with people at work or with friends?

Using the intelligences with co workers is helpful because it allows for collaboration. Different teachers offer different strengths. That can be used to mentor other teachers or to offer knowledge or skill where one teacher may lack.

I believe there is still a relevance to the intelligences in the classroom. Each student will learn at their own pace and the teacher needs to be able to notice this and adapt to it. As mentioned in the reading, each student will have a learning profile. The learning profile will outline the learning style, intelligence, and other factors such as culture and gender that will help to outline the learning profile (Newman, R., 2013). While a teacher may not agree with the intelligence certain students are preferred to use, it is important to understand which type for each student. The teacher can then take the intelligence the student is using and possibly add in aspects from another to help the student master the task at hand. “Gardner believed that individuals are born with each type of intelligence and that all types are necessary to be successful in society (Newman, R., 2013)”. For a teacher, I believe it would be best to work on each intelligence throughout the day. This way the students would be more rounded in which intelligences they prefer to use.

Outside of the classroom, I feel the intelligences would help you to understand what role you play in your job. If you are aware that you are more of a spatial learning, you could seek out a career where you could thrive with this intelligence. I do believe and agree with Gardner when he says each individual has all of the intelligences. I feel it would be better knowing which one you use more to learn and make life decisions based off of that.
