DUTIES:

The incumbent serves as a Lead Medical Instrument Technologist (EEG) in the Neurology Care Line. Incumbent provides neurophysiology services to patients including Intensive Care Units, operating room, isolation unit and psychiatry. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Interpret data to evaluate critical information for surgeons and other medical staff during testing;

• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the nervous system and the ability to understand the relationship of EEG and Evoked Potential in detecting states of disease and health;

• Adapt neurodiagnostic devices, parameters, and procedures to complex, usual, and often critical situations;

• Performs neurophysiology examinations to include but not limited to routine EEG, cerebral death EEG, portable EEG, EEG/Video long-term monitoring, visual evoked potentials (VEP’s), brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP’s), and somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP’s), intraoperative monitoring, brain mapping, and nerve conduction studies;

• Manage employees, develop training plans and provide staff development and training;

• Evaluate new products and equipment and make recommendations concerning developments which would improve operations;

• Manage supplies, equipment repairs, forecast equipment needs and operating supplies, manage the recording library and troubleshoot problems with the data base;

• Performs visual analysis of the patient and recording and documents physiologic phenomena and pertinent clinical observations on the digital recording for the neurophysiologist’s review and interpretation;

Uses judgment and initiative that include selecting appropriate instruments and methods, recognizing conditions that cause erroneous results, and troubleshooting complex instruments;

• Plan and carry out procedures, and handle deviations in the work assignment as directed by the Neurophysiology Section Director; other duties as assigned.
