Using one of the hypothetical situation listed below, cite theoretical points to support the ethical action that could be taken in response to the situation. Explain the rationale for your ethical decision making. Additionally, the paper should address the additional questions that accompany the scenario details.
Scenario 1: A situation that mixes medical ethics and the abortion debate
You are a doctor consulting with a patient who is in the early stages of pregnancy. You have just found out her fetus has severe health complications that would substantially affect its quality of life, even if the woman can carry it to term. What should you, as an ethical practitioner, advise your patient to do? Depending on the country where you live, how may that advice change? Are there specific rights and duties to consider?
Scenario 2: A situation that mixes media ethics and the adultery debate
You and your partner have decided to take a romantic weekend away. When you are checking in to your hotel, you notice another couple acting passionately in the lobby. You recognize one half of the couple immediately: she’s the famous figurehead of a conservative TV channel who strongly supports family values. However, she’s embracing a man who is certainly not her husband. Considering the concepts discussed this week, do you feel obligated to take any action based on this information? Depending on the country where you live, how may that obligation change? Are there specific rights and duties to consider?
Scenario 3:
A teenage boy is accused of murdering his girlfriend. The parents are at odds in their opinions of their parental responsibility. One parent argues that the family has a responsibility to stand by the son, even to the point of interfering with the police investigation. The other parent is not so sure. Looking at the situation from a care ethics standpoint, are the parent’s action of interfering with the investigation morally justified? Does care ethics demand that type of action? Does gender effect your decision of what the ethical behavior is in this situation? What are the parental duties and rights in this situation?
