Working individually, you are to conduct research through a field trip, on a specifc event of your choice. Students are to ensure that they actually attended the event and include photographic evidence in the assignment of having done so.
The event should be a public event of any scope or scale (not a private event such as a wedding or birthday party), Suitable events may include, but are not limited to:
– local or international sporting event
– an exhibition
– trade show
– consumer fair
– concert or performance
– art, cultural, food or religious festival
– product launch
– conference
Your choice of event must be submitted to your lecturer in the 3rd lesson.
While at the event, students should consider the experience from the perspective of a:
– Participant
– Visitor
– Staff member
– Volunteer
Whilst at the site visit, students should immerse themselves in as much of the various elements of the event experience as they can.
For the purpose of the assignment, students are to select at least 2 of the components of event planning listed below, and conduct an evaluation based in observations recorded while attending the event:
– The Event Venue
– Event Marketing Mix
– Event Staff and/ or Volunteers
– Event Sponsorships
– Event Technology
– Event Staging and Production
– Event Catering
– Event Programming
2) FORMAT OF THE ASSIGNMENT
Your assignment should be written in essay format and should be 1000 words in length (+/- 10%)
Sections to include in your essay
– Introduction to the event
– Identify the type of event
– Evaluation the event based on any 2 event planning components listed and discuss your observation
– Ensure to include relevant theory fro the chapters related to the event planning components that you have selected for your evaluation
– Conclusion should include whether you deemed the event as being successful in the planning and implementation of the components discussed, and a justification of your decision
– Detail recommendations that you may have following the evaluation activity
Any relevant photographs and attachments that will enhance your paper, should be included.
You are required to consult and reference a minimum of 5 different sources for this assignment.
