(1) Identify and discuss the main reasons that prisons are overcrowded and the methods used to control overcrowding discussed in your textbook. Do you think the issue of prison overcrowding is one that can be fixed? Why, or why not?

(2) Discuss the issue of the supermax prison. What are some of the issues that these facilities face in their operation? What are some of the issues that staff members face who work in these institutions? Examine how contraband and riots are both issues for the facilities and their staff members. Are you in favor of this style of incarceration? Why, or why not?

(3) Sexual violence in jails and prisons has been discussed in the textbook in several chapters. Is the new Prison Rape Elimination Act effective? What evidence do you have to support the position?
Is the new Prison Rape Elimination Act enough? If not why? If it is enough, describe what impact it had in reducing sexual assaults in prison.

(4) Discuss the positive and negative effects of community policing. Identify some community policing programs and explain their effectiveness. Do you think community policing should replace our traditional methods of police work?

(5) Describe some ways in which community policing is more easily facilitated today with the use of technology. Provide and describe some examples of these methods that are possibly being used in your community.

In a minimum 200 word response describe why DNA is becoming one of the most well-known types of forensic evidence in criminal cases and outline some of the potential problems with using it. Provide examples in your description.
