Topic: To what extent are social and cultural factors implicated in the aetiology of eating disorders? Critically discuss with reference to the empirical evidence.

I have uploaded the presentation we did on this question. however this was the general feedback that MUST be taken into consideration:

– There were also points were evidence could have been used to support claims. You showed some criticality but this could have been developed further.
– Evidence is rarely definitive. Prospective studies do provide stronger evidence of causation, but they still have limitations. I liked to summary of previous literature from prospective studies, but would be good to discuss the qualities of those studies (i.e., setting, sample size, ect).
– Slide 25: There is the bulimic subtype of anorexia so would have been good to provide some evidence supporting your claims that individual’s transition between ED types and how this fits.
– Good social and cultural section and prospective section but when environment/gene interaction – link more strongly to argument
– Prospective studies: more critical – praise meta-analysis for its methodological strengths and talk about limitations of prospective studies -> while better, most reserachm ethods they still have limitations in reliability
– Samples size, samplying techniques – possible limitations tor eliability of results
– Say strong evidence but not large statement
