Rose for Emily – Who is the narrator of this story? Why would Faulkner choose this narrator instead of letting Emily or another character narrate the story? Is this narrator reliable?

Rose for Emily – “We had long thought of them as a tableau, Miss Emily a slender figure in white in the background, her father a spraddled silhouette in the foreground, his back to her and clutching a horsewhip, the two of them framed by the back-flung front door” (Faulkner, 1931, 86). What is a tableau? What information is revealed about Emily and her father in the symbols and description in this quote?
The Yellow Wallpaper – What makes the narrator unreliable, exactly? What evidence does she convey that the reader must interpret on a different level in order to obtain the truth?
The Yellow Wallpaper – Who is the woman behind the yellow wallpaper, who looks out through its bars at the narrator as she sleeps? Why does she creep about the yard and garden at night?
The Yellow Wallpaper – “You see he does not believe I am sick! And what can one do? If a physician of high standing, and one’s own husband, assures friends and relatives that there is really nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous depression — a slight hysterical tendency — what is one to do? My brother is also a physician, and also of high standing, and he says the same thing … Personally, I disagree with their ideas.” Describe the relationship between this patient and her caregivers.
