Fiction writing
Your first Core Writing paper will be to write a new piece of original short fiction. In keeping with the class models, this story must range between 7-9 pages and be situated within the context of “literary” fiction as we’ve explored. This means that pieces that most directly fit within the label of “genre” fiction are not suitable (ie, fantasy, romance, mystery, scifi, etc…) Beyond that, there is no “formal” prompt, so you have wide range of material. Also, the draft must be complete, meaning, you get to the end of the story. It should be formatted with standard one in margins, 12pt font, double spaced lines.
The guidelines and expectations for these workshops will be available in advance of that unit. There are no set subjects, assignments, etc…(aside from that it should not be a “genre” story as discussed. So long as you are attempting to write literary fiction, the results should be workable.
