Final Author Project

Final Author Project

It is an injustice to American Literature to try to cram it all into only six weeks. Therefore, you will be responsible for presenting an American poet or writer from our text (any time period but preferably from the contemporary section) that we did not discuss in class and his or her work. You will prepare a presentation that will introduce the biography of the poet/writer, provide a sample of his or her writing, a short interpretation of his/her work, and a piece of literary criticism about the writer’s specific work that you’ve chosen. Literary criticism is best found from the Hatch Library database titled Literary Reference Center, a link to which you will find in the course resources module. This presentation can be in the form of a power point or a movie (iMovie), but should be creative. Some people set presentations to music, while others record their own voices to read while presenting, or even opt for silent presentations. The object here is to present research you have done on the author. Here are the required parts:

give  a short biography of the author or poet, making sure to include time period, lifestyle, and major influences on his or her writing. Include information regarding the author’s writing style and predominant themes and ideas throughout his or her writing. These are just a few examples. Please feel free to expand.
Include samples of his or her work. If you choose a poet you may read a poem aloud or find a recording or video on youtube. If you choose an author and a short story or drama, you need to provide a detailed summary of the piece of writing during your presentation.
Part of your presentation should be an interpretation of the elements of the particular genre your poet/writer represents.
A piece of scholarly literary criticism regarding the particular work you choose to present. This should be attached with a link and a summary of key points.
Upload your presentation on time, and submit also an outline of your work, including your references in MLA style.
