Financial accounting for sports management

Financial accounting for sports management
The Directions will be attached. Its a 2 part project. The first part consists of creating power point slides for a presentation. The second part is writing a paper. It is very simply explained in the directions but to simplify the first part even more : Do a background on what they sell, when they opened, who buys their product. Next compare it to a similar company. Dont forget to use the ratios he asks for . Go on yahoo finance to look up financial statements. THE COMPANY THAT YOU WILL CHOOSE IS NIKE, THE FIRST PART ON THE SLIDES AND THE SECOND PART ON THE PAPER WILL BOTH BE ON NIKE. Please follow the directions carefully and DO NOT bid if you are unfamiliar with the topic or if u cannot meet the deadline. The last 3-4 porjects that I’ve done on this site the scholar failed to folllow the directions carefully and cost me alot of points that turned it into a bad grade. PLEASE FOLLOW DIRECTIONS ATTACHED

Sports Stock Group Project: Presentation and SWOT Paper
Beginning April 3rd, we will begin our Sports Stock Project group presentations.

Presentations will be given on April 3rd and 10th.

In order to minimize wasted time due to data collection (the focus being on data analysis), each group will present either Nike, Under Armour, Lululemon, Foot Locker, Electronic Arts or Activision Blizzard.

There will be six groups, no more than two groups presenting each stock.

Please note, regardless of which day your group presents its PowerPoint presentation, the SWOT papers due from each group are not due until the final day of presentations (Apr. 10th).

Each group will email me one PowerPoint presentation for its group by 2am on the morning it presents. Each group will email me the presentation in a format that I can save on my computer for recordkeeping and grading purposes.
Presentations are typically 10-15 slides:

The first five slides (all slide numbers are approximate – you are not required to have the exact #, the key is to make sure the applicable substance is provided):

Introduction to your company (e.g. history, products).

The next five slides: comparing your company to its competitors utilizing ratio analysis and any other metrics you deem applicable.

Choosing relevant competitors and ratios for analysis is the key critical thinking component of this presentation.

For instance, if one were to consider Under Armour, one might compare it to Nike and Lululemon.

The final five slides: pick one day/short time period in the company’s history when the stock had a large move, display and discuss the move, and then finish your overall presentation by providing a general conclusion.

By exploring the news for the company at the time of the large stock move, there will likely be numerous articles providing explanations as to why that move may have happened (e.g. earnings announcements as we’ve discussed in class).

Showing the chart of the move to the class will help provide some insight into your stock.

It also helps all students see how volatile certain stocks can be, and how stocks in certain industries can be more volatile than others.

Lastly, your conclusion can just be your brief thoughts on your exploration of the company.

For instance, it is always interesting to hear group members’ thoughts as to whether they conclude, after having researched the company, whether the company is financially healthy and whether the company’s stock seems under, over, or fairly valued.

A pleasant and coherent visual format is useful, but there is no one template that is required.

I encourage creativity for the presentations, so I do not provide past examples, and this basic framework has led to each semester’s projects being unique and fresh, regardless if the company had already been covered.

On a final note, presentations last typically 20-30 minutes at most, depending on how long the Q & A takes. I will ask basic questions throughout your presentation and students are encouraged to as well.

SWOT Analysis Paper – Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats

As we have discussed in class, quantitative analyses may not be sufficient to fully investigate the future prospects of a company.

Accordingly, folks often conduct SWOT analyses in order to assess the strengths and opportunities for a company, while examining its weaknesses and threats.

This 3-6 page paper (one paper per group; I am not concerned about page length as much as I am about substance, the key is to ensure that the substance stemming from superb critical thinking is included in the paper) is aimed at each group providing its thoughts on the key items for each of these headings.
This paper can essentially be six main parts:

First, a brief introduction of your company (not necessary for it to be long, as you are already providing an introduction in your PowerPoint presentation).

The next four parts can be each of the four pieces of the acronym, with each part merely started by the applicable header, e.g.:

Strengths

Lastly, your final part should be a brief summation of your exploration. Similar to part one (the introduction), this part can be particularly short, as you will already be providing a conclusion during your presentation.

Please note that one goal is to minimize any inefficiencies by removing as much duplication from the two separate pieces of the project (presentation and paper) as possible.

Accordingly, please do not include any SWOT paper-specific slides in your PowerPoint presentation.

Although, it is common to discuss certain issues during your presentation that may overlap, as perhaps they may be particularly vital for analyzing your stock (e.g. the threat of Under Armour to Nike).

Obviously, there will occasionally be some overlapping thoughts or comments, but generally this overall project framework has allowed for students to bifurcate their analysis efficiently and succinctly.
