when delivering an external beam radiotherapy treatment, any movement of the patient while the radiation beam is on will affect the accuracy of the treatment. one obvious form of motion is breathing and, increasingly , radiotherapy centres are employing various technologies and techniques to account for this motion. “Gating” refer synchronising image acquisition or treatment delivery with a periodic motion, in this case, the patient’s breathing.
