The central questions for this week’s readings are as follows:
What do Menon and Bhasin say about women’s narration/ stories in Borders and Boundaries? How does it defer from the way in which men tell their stories? Do you think women are valuable documentarians of the past? Why and how?
How does the state regard women as “citizens” of the new country?
– What safety measures does the state take with regards to the citizens of the nation? How do the citizens respond to these measures? Can we say the new state is coercive as regard to women’s independence? Discuss with reference to Borders and Boundaries
– Do we see patriarchy continuing in the newly emergent country? How? Discuss.
