Lab 1 Questions
1. Describe some of the things that can be done using GIS.

2. This site lists five steps in the framework for GIS analysis. List and briefly explain
these five stages

3. Click on the Jobs tab then the links under Find a GIS Job. Explore the websites in
this section, find at least two GIS jobs that may be of interest to you and note the
position title, education/experience requirements, salary (if listed), location of the job,
the company that posted the job and any other pertinent information.
The answer to this question can be copy and pasted.
4. What is the difference between raster GIS model and the vector GIS model?
5. What institution, company or organization is responsible for each one of the four
websites you selected? What can you say about this institution, company or
organization? Such as, is it operated by a government agency, academic institution,
private company, etc. List and describe the data found on each of the four sites you
selected and give potential applications of the data.
6. Find two other websites, other than those listed above, that are of interest to you and
related to GIS. What are these sites (please give URL) and what information/data do
they have on them? Wikipedia entries do not count.
