The objective for this exercise is to estimate the frequency of the seismic data in two windows and to calculate a seismic wavelength and vertical resolution. You are given a portion of a seismic line with two enlarged windows.
1. Write 1 page literature review on seismic vertical resolution
Given two time windows on seismic data on page 3:
2-Estimate the number of cycles over the given time window, (hint: one peak and one trough make a cycle)
3. Use an equation to convert from an ‘apparent’ to a dominant frequency.
4. Calculate the wavelength.
5. Estimate the vertical resolution limit
6. Interpret your estimated vertical resolution limits for window 1 and 2. At which window, seismic has more ability to distinguish two features from one another? Why?
