Discussion 2 Part 1: Alternate Viewpoints
Note: The Week 6 Discussion 2 topic has two distinct postings: Alternate Viewpoints Part 1: Stance (Week 6 Discussion 2 Part 1) and Alternate Viewpoints Part 2: Counter Argument(Week 6 Discussion 2 Part 2).
For the Alternate Viewpoints Part 1: Stance posting, you will post one paragraph that briefly identifies and explains your stance on your chosen subject.
The second posting, Alternate Viewpoints Part 2: Counter Argument, is where you will prepare and post a 1- to 2-page counter argument to your original stance on the same subject.
Alternate Viewpoints Part 1: Stance
People are raised to respect the beliefs of their family and their society. In arenas such as politics, the focus is all about persuading someone that a certain set of beliefs is correct, while the opponent’s is faulty. There is often no middle ground or attempt to reach a consensus. But critical thinkers strive for better. To better understand a problem, it is important to analyze it from all sides. This means considering the other point of view, even if it is contrary to your deepest-held convictions.
Select one of the following topics (or a similar management topic of your choice): green business, outsourcing, government bailouts, unions, financial regulation, energy, etc.
Post by Day 4 one paragraph that briefly identifies and explains your stance on the subject.
Note: After completing your initial posting, conduct research in the Walden Library to prepare a 1- to 2-page counter argument to your own position. You will post your counter argument to the Alternate Viewpoints Part 2: Counter Argument by Day 5.
