Group Analysis

Group Analysis Paper
This is an individual assignment. It is an opportunity to look at group/team characteristics and behaviors, and compare best practice to your personal experience on the group project (Organization Analysis Project) this semester. Throughout the semester, you will be learning about group/team practices and behavior in the text and in the course. As you are learning this, you will be experiencing what it is like to be a member of a group. You will be able to link theory and practice. Throughout the semester, please make a point to notice:
• your project group norms, behaviors, and characteristics
• any conflict or personality struggles.
• how you divide work,
• what roles people play
• how the group makes decisions
• and any other group characteristics or behaviors that you believe influence quality of the team’s products or interaction

These observations will help when you write this paper, and will greatly enhance your learning. Please note that your paper will be confidential and will not be shared with your other group members.
Paper assignment: Plan to compare, contrast, and critique organizational behavior within the group, including factors that affect behavior. You may want to include comparisons of other groups to which you have been a member to make a point (good or negative experiences), but the emphasis of this paper should be on your current project group. Please review and include theory from the text, especially Chapters 8 to 11. Your paper should address at least the following group topics:
• description of your group
• diversity/inclusion
• individual differences in personality and perception
• decision making, including application of problem-solving and decision-making models
• group motivation and engagement, including applicable theories
• group development (forming, storming…)
• group dynamics
• roles of each member (task and people roles)
• norms that have emerged and govern individual and group behavior
• power and leadership issues including applicable theories
• functional/dysfunctional conflict and conflict management
• group effectiveness, trust, and cohesiveness
• also, be sure to answer the following questions:
• How would your rate your overall experience in this group? (strengths, areas for improvement)
• What was your key learning about working in a group? What was the learning value of the group experience and this Group Analysis paper?
• How might you apply this learning moving forward to make your next group experience better?
It is not enough to merely address or identify the topics listed. This paper is an application oriented paper that should reference theories and models studied. In addition to making specific use of the theories and concepts of organizational behavior from the readings (at least 5), you must analyze specific behavioral examples and give some indication as to the implications of those behaviors. You will also need to draw conclusions from your analysis and detail the learning value of the assignment in relation to all levels of organizational behavior.
In addition to the information listed above, your paper will be evaluated on the following:
• coverage of the required topics listed
• breadth of analysis
• depth of analysis
• accurate and thorough use of theories/concepts at appropriate levels of organizational behavior
• use of specific examples of behavior within the group
• learning value related to theory and all levels of organizational behavior
• use of theory in conclusions made
• organization, clarity and readability of the paper
Be sure to integrate 5 outside scholarly sources in your paper and at least 5 major concepts or theories from the text within your paper.

Please use the Writing Guidelines provided for you in the Content section of the course web site.
There is an example of an acceptable (not perfect) Group Analysis Paper on the course site. You will also want to consult the grading rubric for this assignment.
