Plan Ahead: Handbook
Attached Files: [3 Handbook Template CRIM56705.doc (69 KB)
Throughout this term, you will be working on a handbook that addresses the history of community corrections,
its contemporary characteristics, and the most current data regarding treatment and supervision strategies. It
is not feasible to complete the handbook at the last minute. Accordingly, you will be required to post drafts of
your handbook to a group discussion board in weeks 3 and 5 for peer and instructor review. You are strongly
encouraged to work at a pace of one section a week, dedicating additional time to revising and polishing your
work in the weeks that sections of the handbook are due. Each section should be approximately 2-3 pages, for
a total length of 15-20 pages of content (not counting the title page or references). The handbook should be
double-spaced, Times New Roman 12pt font, with standard margins.
This week, you should be working on Section I: History of Probation and Parole. The section should address
an overview of the origin and historical development of both probation and parole, as well as an overview of
contemporary probation and parole populations. You can integrate assigned readings, but are also expected to
conduct additional research.
The attached template should be used throughout the term as you work on your handbook.
Community Corrections Handbook
About the Template
Overview
Throughout this term, you will be working on a handbook that addresses the history of community corrections, its contemporary characteristics, and the most current data regarding treatment and supervision strategies. It is not feasible to complete the handbook at the last minute; therefore, you are encouraged to plan ahead and work on one section per module. During modules 3 and 5, you will be required to submit drafts of your handbook to the discussion board to obtain feedback from your peers and instructor. Your final polished draft is due at the end of module 7. Your final draft should address all components of the handbook in a polished manner, with the content well supported by assigned course readings as well as quality outside research, and reflect changes from peer and instructor feedback.
