The purpose of this project is for groups to develop a comprehensive Manager Handbook & Training Guide for a Management Level Position within their chosen industry. In so doing, students will learn about the various forms that are often used in hiring new employees, along with developing an understanding of how to create a desired company culture and training guide to ensure proper understanding of the job position and company expectations.

Each group will create their own company within their desired industry and will choose a management level position to base their project around. Each group will develop a detailed Job Description & Job Specification that could be used as recruitment material for a new hire. As part of the Manager Handbook, each group will develop a company mission statement and each group member will choose a role that they ‘work’ within the company and will write a short bio & description of their role at the company. The handbook must also contain policies related to: Discrimination, Hiring and Pay/Benefits.

For the Training Guide, each group will provide a detailed 4-week (40-60hr work week) guide for what a newly hired manager would be expected to follow. This could include such things as: completing necessary paperwork, shadowing line-level employees or other managers, learning POS or other Technical Systems, watching necessary training videos, completing a required knowledge/training test, etc. Groups may choose what days of the week and what hours/shifts the training will take place over, but the work should be designed for a 40-60 hour work week.
