Horror in the past & present

Horror in the past & present
Create an argument for the functions of horror literature/ theatre / the arts. Why do we like the gristly stuff, and what purpose does it serve? Is horror merely a emotional roller coaster meant to give us a thrill without getting hurt? is it function to feed our innate morbid curiousity — the narrative equivalent of looking at a car crash on thr high way? Is it a way to allow the public to exorcise large- scale social fears in a safe enviroment? Or, is it smaller than that? Is it meant to reflect basic human truths (albeit unpleasant cries) back at us?

You may argue for any of these theories, or come up with your own.

paper should track similar themes and ideas between texts, and use them as evidence for your thesis. Consider how horror has changed and/ or remained the same overtime. Your thesis statement should focus on one primary “function”, although sub-functions can support and inform it.
