As an employee, are you automatically an agent of the employer? To what extent, if any, does that agency extend? Thoughts?

How does one know if someone is the authorized agent of another? For instance, if I own a shop and have an employee in training who has specific instructions NOT to sell anything without running it by me first, and they do sell it, was the sell valid? Why or why not? Thoughts?

It is said that you can fire an at-will employee at any time for any reason, for no reason; it just cannot be an illegal one. Is this statement true? Why or why not?
