How to prepare An Effective Discussion

How to prepare An Effective Discussion

For our second discussion, we are going to all weigh in on how an effective discussion is created. I know some of you will be thinking, “How does this apply to Rock & Roll?” Discussions are going to be a big part of your college education. Whether it is happening online, like these, or in the class room. The concepts are the same. Our goal (at least, MY goal) here is to help you learn how to think critically. Trust me when I say it is among the most important things you will ever learn to help you through college.

I linked an article to the previous Announcement, but allow me to do it here also:

How to prepare  An Effective Discussion by Dr. Dean Hess from Duke University (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

As you read through this, think of ways you can apply it to a discussion. Raise those thoughts in the discussion area. I’m not going to list out a group of questions here because I want you to create an original line of thought. Look through each of the details that Dr. Hess lays out and talk about how you could have applied them to the Etymology discussion and/or how you can apply them to future discussions, music or otherwise. There will be some points in his article that may not apply to what we are doing. Identify them and explain why you don’t think they may matter. This will, hopefully, give you some thoughts on how to improve your discussion skills.
