Human rights and social advocacy

a) Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the major theories on
power and the nature of oppression
b) Critically analyse the historical development of the human rights
movement, and contemporary notions of and practices for
achieving/exercising social justice, social advocacy and community activism
c) Understand how human rights principles can be used as a tool for
achieving social justice
d) Critique contemporary theories of empowerment and advocacy
e) Demonstrate knowledge of current approaches, practices, legislation and
services that relate to human rights and social advocacy
f) Examine possible roles for managers, community services workers, and/or
social activists in this field.
