Sample Municipal Government Assignment:
• Choose a municipal meeting to attend. Call to confirm that it is being held and is open to the public (always a good idea, but especially true in the summer), and the location.
• Attend meeting. Meetings could run from 30 minutes to 3 hours. You could leave after an hour if you chose. No need to participate—just attend and observe. Take notes.
• Write two page reflection on meeting, post to Moodle. Answer the following questions, and connect with at least one course reading.
• Who attended the meeting (on the panel and in the audience—how many, what were their roles)? Who participated?
• What evidence did you see of policy analysis or policy advocacy?
• What topics were discussed? Why are these topics important (or not important) to the area?
• What was your overall impression? Did you feel welcome as a member of the public? Would you go back?
