IC&RC defines referral as the identification of client’s needs that cannot be met by the counselor or agency and assisting the client to use the support systems and community resources available. It is imperative that the counselor is able to recognize their own limitations as well as the needs of the client. Explain why referrals are sometimes necessary and provide a case example in which you would refer a client.
