Discussions Assignment Instructions

You will complete five Discussions in this course. You will post one thread that is between 300 and 350 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned module. You will then post two replies of between 200 and 250 words by Sunday 11:59 p.m. in the same module, except the last two replies, which are due by Friday 11:59 p.m. of the last module. When addressing each assigned topic, you must incorporate relevant ideas from at least two of the required course texts in the thread. In each reply, extend the discussion by analyzing and building upon your classmates’ or instructor’s ideas and reference at least one of the required course texts. Avoid repeating the same ideas across several posts. Threads and replies must demonstrate course-related knowledge and assertions must be supported by references in current APA format. Use of first-person and single-spaced formatting is appropriate in Discussions, while the inclusion of headings/subheadings is not. Threads and replies must be well written, well organized, and focused.

DQ #3

Through the course materials, you have learned about how to effectively lead a group session. Which of the different skills described and demonstrated by Jacobs et al. and Corey et al. do you feel would be the easiest and the hardest, respectively, for you to incorporate into your own group leader and why? In your replies, integrate perspectives on group leadership and performance, as presented by Forsyth.

DQ #4

Rounds and dyads are excellent techniques for support and counseling groups, and they may also be effectively used in other types of groups. Describe one specific example of a round and one specific example of a dyad exercise that you could implement in a meeting with a task group, project group, or team to enhance the motivation, decision-making process, performance, and/or productivity of the group. In your replies, offer helpful recommendations on how to refine or adapt these exercises and feel free to share relevant experiences from group/team meetings in your personal or professional context.

DQ #5

In chapter 16, Jacobs et al. address problem situations that may cause conflict in a group and get it off track. Choose one of these and shed further light on why this is a common issue and why/how it may lead to conflict by drawing upon Forsyth, chapter 13 and Corey et al., second program. In your replies, add insights to your classmates’ posts, both from your personal experience and from the course materials.
