Read the “Current CPI Economic News Releases” and summarize the latest release. Did the CPI increase or decrease? What caused the index to increase or decrease? Explain. Visit the inflation calculator (Links to an external site.)链接到外部网站。 (https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm) section and easily find out how the buying power of the dollar has changed over the years. Experiment with three amounts, in different starting years, and report your findings. Are you surprised at how purchasing power has changed? Share your thoughts.

Option 2: Visit the CIA World Factbook (Links to an external site.)链接到外部网站。(https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/resources/the-world-factbook/rankorder/rankorderguide.html) to learn about GDP, unemployment, and inflation of a foreign country. Pick TWO countries to analyze. There is a drop-down menu that lists all of the countries titled “Please select a country to review”. Once you select a country, click on the “+” sign to expand the “Economy” section. Share the following data with the class:
1. GDP (official exchange rate)
2. GDP – real growth rate
3. GDP per capita
4. Unemployment rate
5. Inflation rate (consumer prices)
