Sigmund Freud’s work has roots in Greek Tragedy and is still studied and discussed in psychology and in popular culture. You will also take a closer look at some of the innovated artistic movements from this era. Though this time in history was plagued by war, it was also a creative period in the Humanities as a response to the seriousness of war.
Do you agree with Freud’s psychoanalysis of the id, ego, and superego? Where does it seem to ring true, and what are some questions you have about the theory?
How is modernism defined? How are Cubism, Fauvism, Futurism, and Expressionism classified as modernist, and how did these styles reflect a modernist spirit?
